What is four-color printing

March 25, 2021

What is the order of the four-color printing color sequence? The four-color printing process is based on the subtractive color mixing law, using the three primary colors of yellow, magenta, and cyan plus black ink for printing. With the development of printing machinery and production technology, color printing has gradually developed from multi-color printing to printing with a fixed number of colors. At first, people had imagined using the three colors of cyan, magenta, and yellow for printing and copying, but the effect was not ideal. Later, people added the fourth color-black on the basis of three-color printing, which greatly improved the color effect of the printed product. . At present, the four-color printing process has become the international mainstream printing method. Generally, the reasonable arrangement of the color sequence of the four-color printing machine is: black, cyan, red, and yellow, and there are also printing in the inverted color sequence of yellow, red, cyan, and black. When printing on a four-color machine, the printing interval between colors is short, and the ink has no drying time, which belongs to the wet and wet superimposition method. When printing on a monochromatic machine, the printing interval between colors is longer, and the second printing is When coloring, the first color is already dry, so it belongs to the wet and dry overprinting method. It is precisely because of the different overprinting methods that the color sequence arrangement is different. There are many color sequence arrangements for monochromatic machines, but which color sequence to choose can be considered from the following aspects:

    1. Arrange the color sequence according to the size of the image and text, and print small images and texts first, and then print full-page or large-format images and texts.

    2. Arrange the color sequence according to the transparency and hiding power of the three primary colors. The cyan and black inks with poor transparency are printed first, and the yellow and red inks with good transparency are printed later.

    3. To arrange the color sequence according to the lightness of the three primary colors, dark colors should be printed first, followed by bright colors, that is, cyan and black are printed first, and red and yellow are printed second.

    4. According to the characteristics of the original manuscript, color pictures with warm tones should be printed in cyan or black first, and color pictures with cold tones should be printed in red or yellow first.
